I've always been told that I should backup precious files just in case the computer goes down, but never have I heard of a backup system actually doing the complete opposite and deleting all your files. I bought it and actually managed to recover a considerable number of photos and other files that had been lost. The next day, looking round PC World, I found a program called 'Search and Recover 4'. Pressing F10 on startup took the computer into the recover partition and I managed to full recover Windows Vista. Wondering how I was going to get things back working again, I looked up my computer on the internet, a Sony Vaio laptop, and only found that I would require a recovery disc that I should have created myself!! I was really worried at this but finally found another way. Running this, I discovered my internal hard drive was completely blank!!! All my photos, videos and other files gone. It then struck me that 'SwissKnife' must have formatted my internal hard drive as well!!! I contacted a friend who is really knowledgeable about computers and he told me to download 'Puppy Linux' Live CD using my other computer. I restarted my computer, made sure it wasn't trying to boot off a removable device but still the error appeared. I was so shocked I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The next time I started the computer, I suddenly got an error saying 'Operating System Not Found.'. But I didn't have time to do a full backup so shut down the computer. But unfortunately, it didn't work out as my Apple Mac is unable to read FAT32 drives bigger than 120 GB!!! So I set to work partitioning the hard drive, I reformatted the drive first then partitioned it four ways making sure each partition was just less than 120 GB large. The next day I plugged my external hard drive back in and incredibly it had actually been formatted.
By this time it was late at night and I had to stop it. After setting up the program, I set it to work on formatting my external hard drive in full only for it to take over seven hours then just start over again. I had a load of trouble formatting the drive to work with all my computer systems, formatting a full 500 GB hard drive in FAT32 is impossible using Windows alone so I decided to try a third party software called 'SwissKnife'. I bought a new external hard drive a few weeks ago to backup all my precious home photos and music along with other important files.
